Investigation of storage processes

Subproject 3

In this work package the experimental investigations of the involved subprocesses are done. Systematic investigations will be carried out on selected materials to record the sorption kinetics and will be compared and evaluated with the results of the sorption equilibrium. The investigations on the silica aerogels will primarily be limited to the temperature range between 10 and 40 °C, whereas for HEAs a temperature range of up to 160 °C is being targeted. The maximum pressure range will be 3.5 MPa.

Besides, a measuring device is being developed with both types of material classes within "Core-H2storage" can be systematically investigated regarding to their uptake and release of hydrogen.

Finally, the cycle stability in H2 ad/absorption and desorption process will be tested on selected materials to identify best performance materials of both classes. Furthermore, it is important to determine the cycle stability and working range of the system in order to develop a storage system that is usable and ready for operation over longer periods of time.

Conclusions for material optimization will be drawn and will be integrated into developments in subproject 1.
